Busy Weekend

Well, so much for posting pictures frequently. I forgot the camera for the parade today. I'm sure you all really wanted to see pictures of the 4th of July parade in Springfield. Suffice it to say that it was not a whole lot different from other years. There were a bunch of fire departments marching and driving their big trucks (What would happen if there were a big fire somewhere in Otsego County at 11 AM on July 4?), a number of fire queens, a few high school bands, some veterans (but no Iwo Jimo float), the Glimmerglass Opera (wearing their baseball costumes from a year or two ago), and last (always last) the horses. The kids determine how good the parade was by how much candy was thrown to them. By that standard, the parade was okay. Mary and Karl both had baggies full of smarties and tootsie rolls.

Helen swam at the Colgate Classic this weekend. On Saturday, Grammie and Grampa drove over to watch her swim in the afternoon. On Sunday, the whole Zaengle clan (all 10 of us) drove over after church to watch her swim. After she swam in the afternoon, we left Helen to swim in the evening finals and get a ride home with the Haseleys while the rest of us visited Aunt Mary and Uncle John in Sherburne. It was my first time visiting the lovely penthouse apartment. Oh, Mary, you are so lucky....

Back to Helen's swimming -- she had a good meet, improving her times in almost everything. She was especially strong in her freestyle events. Next weekend, she swims in Binghamton.

Next weekend is also the 7x7 tournament. Owen and Sam are both excited about that. Which team will win is anyone's guess....

Here's Philip. He was mad because one of the officials (not me) told him to not take flash pictures at the start of races. It really is a distraction to the timers and swimmers when flashes go off because there is also a strobe light that flashes to signal the start. Posted by Hello

We did sparklers in the backyard after we got home on the 4th. Posted by Hello
